A pertinent fact that was not mentioned in the movie or any of the above postings was that Dan White was a decorated Vietnam combat veteran. He served with the 101st Airborne in the Central Highlands as an infantry squad leader and received the Bronze Star for bravery under fire.

In addition, many who knew him at the time he was on the Board of Supervisors were quite shaken by his sudden fits of rage, inflexible attitude, and risk taking behaviors. Near the end of his time on the board he would stare out into space and speak to no one. As a disabled veteran myself, this anecdotal evidence shows it is very likely that Dan White had severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. However, in 1978, PTSD was not a recognized psychological condition, and as a result, his trial defense had to resort to the "term
"Diminished Capacity"

Interestingly, Harvey Milk was himself a veteran of the Korean War, serving as an officer in the Navy on a submarine rescue vessel and later as a diving instructor. One of the things that made both White and Milk friends at the outset was the pride they both had in their military service.

I will state here that the murders of George Moscone and Harvey Milk were the shadows of the Vietnam War coming home to haunt us. And if America had treated its Vietnam veterans with the help and dignity they deserved back in the '60s and '70s, the Harvey Milk, George Moscone, and Dan White would all be very much alive today.

Bringing awareness to a tragedy is not fear mongering or creating hate. It is not about the race of this man but about the fact that he killed an innocent teenager. He stalked him, hunted him, chased him down and murdered him. No matter what laws Florida has in place, as a human being this should disgust anyone.

Welfare is not just for Black people. People of all races and creeds use the system. The percentage of people who abuse it is far less than the people who use it when and if they need it. Secondly, homelessness is an epidemic in this nation across all color lines. The economy and the war on terrorism have cemented that sad reality for many Americans. Thirdly, the current President
is not to blame for the current crisis. We are feeling the effects of Reaganomics from the 80s. All he is trying to do is repair it, reset the damage.

Black people, minorities, and women have not had the same rights as white men for nearly as long. White people have had many advantages. There has not been a long enough lapse in time for other races to prosper as the White race. That is not racism, just facts. We don't come from old money. We are still building.

The laws that we have in place to ensure equality are there for a reason and anyone who thinks they are obsolete should be Black for a month and let me know if you want to reconsider.

I am of mixed race, Black and Mexican. I was born and raised here. This is my home. I was educated here from elementary, college and currently grad school. My family is positively contributing to society.

What I want to know is. What is the purpose of your blogs? Who is really fear mongering? There is no race war. What are you trying to accomplish here? If you are not a racist and you are truly trying to bring awareness to certain truths, start doing it. Dressing the President up to look like a bafoon on your site and came calling is not going to solve anything. Try a more positive approach and stick to facts. If you did that, you would see that most of what you are saying here is not true.
