President Obama’s on the Hot Seat over Massive Job Losses & State of Economy; 18% American Children Living in Poverty & Going Hungry:
By Marc Chamot

President Obama is now in the hot seat, his polls are dropping like dead flies, and he’s under heavy guns about the state of our economy and jobs losses.

He’s now under extreme pressure from both, conservatives and liberals to do something about declining jobs, the economic meltdowns and growing deficits.

Either this President is naive, well misinformed, or just plain inexperienced. Just why is he jumping from one issue to the next, without making sure that the critical issue, like the state of the economy and job losses have been taken care of first, before jumping into other outrageous/silly ideas, issues like energy, global warming, legalizing illegal aliens and healthcare?

Since last year, I have continually written on my blogs that a stimulus alone will not, and will never be the ONLY solution in solving our economical and jobs ills.

The Democrats and he are totally ignoring economics 101; the real formula goes well beyond just a stimulus. Pumping money into the problem is like giving pain killers to someone who has cancer; it doesn’t solve what ails them, until you cut that CANCER OUT, by getting that surgery done.

There are numerous aspects beyond a stimulus that are totally being ignored by this administration, Democrats and Republicans alike. For example, some of the real solutions to our social ills, are specifically spelled out for congress in the 1997 Congressional Jordan Commission; 1997 Jordan Commission Report on Immigration Predicted Mass Importations of Low Waged & Low Skilled Foreign Workers Would Decimate Jobs & Wages:

The bipartisan Jordan Commission Report specifically stated that the United States MUST curve immigration. It specifically said that it must secure the border with Mexico and cut back on visas, and visa overstays, and these H1B, H2B work visas. It also stated that the massive influxes of low skilled immigrants would eventually destroy jobs and lower incomes for most Americans. Whether you believe it or not, that’s where we’re at now.

This is the BIG problem with Barack Obama and these Democrats; they are NOT LISTENING to U.S., they keep ignoring the root causes of these problems, and its viable solution which can be done to help struggling Americans.

Another big problem for President Obama, is he once again totally ignoring the declining manufacturing jobs, he still hasn’t put a plug on the exit doors for these manufacturers that keep going abroad for their cheaper labor.

It’s about frikin’ time that the national press begins to put public pressure on Barack Obama and on these hapless Democrats, to have them begin acting on jobs and on the sad state of our economy.

That same old rhetoric that we’re used to hearing from these people won’t work anymore, and it is getting very old and tiresome to hear it. We Americans aren’t as stupid as what some of these politicos think; there will be no more EXCUSES.

We don’t have a year or two to wait around like President Obama tells us to do. The economic reality is this folks; latest reports show that 18 percent of our children are now living in poverty with the threat of hunger every day.

Source Examiner.com; a recent federal report showed that 18% of the 74 million American children aged 17 and under, were living in poverty in 2007, up from 17 percent in 2006. Those who went without eating, gone without food in some days, increased from 0.6 percent in 2006 to 0.9 percent in 2007.

Why it’s very urgent for our government to act immediately, instead of taking that infamous debonair attitude that these politicians are known for.

With the way the economy and jobs are now, those figures for 2008 and 2009 are going to be horrendous for our future children!

Obama changes tune to accommodate bad economic news
President Obama appears to be changing the rhetoric from that of early June when he said that he was not satisfied with the pace of the stimulus package that the Democrats pushed through Congress without reading and which was signed by him three days later.

Now Obama says that he always assumed the Recovery Act would take time and that this summer and fall were the key times. He is no longer mentioning his previous goal to "save or create" 3.6 million jobs and or the 8% unemployment figure as economists now predict that figure, already 9.5%, could go as high as 10% to 11%.

Meanwhile, the Washington Times reported how inefficient the Recovery Act is with some states that have low unemployment rates receiving more money per capita than states with poor jobs markets. It also reported that Obama has had to cancel some projects after some of them were almost ridiculous, nothing more than earmarks for some politician to bring home to his district. (Pelosi's mouse, for example?)

Meanwhile, Republicans are reminding the public about the promises that Obama made, including that jobs would be created immediately instead of the newest Obama predictions that a recovery would start taking place in the second half of the year.

It appears that the Obama mantra of "hope" is beginning to look more like "helpless" as he tries to change the rhetoric of just a month ago. Meanwhile, no matter how the pro-Obama media tries to cover it up, the American public's disillusionment with Obama and the stimulus show a decline not only in the program but with the man himself.

So now in the second week of July, 2009, Obama is saying that the stimulus is working as intended. What a difference a month makes when reality begins to clash with the previous promises coming out of the White House.

A great opinion piece by Obamas' own big supporter, Cynthia Tucker.

Obama’s next stop: Main St.
For the first time, President Obama’s overseas travel, with his photogenic family in tow, seemed jarring and discordant — out of touch with the everyday woes of constituents back home. As photographers flashed pictures of the first family abroad, analysts were poring over the depressing economic news of continuing job losses. Somehow, photos of the Obamas in resplendent, gold-bedecked palaces smacked of Marie Antoinette.

It’s not the president’s fault that the gathering of the G-8, the world’s biggest economies, was held overseas just as second-quarter economic reports revealed that unemployment in the U.S. had jumped to 9.5 percent. But, now that’s he’s back, it will be Obama’s failure if he doesn’t grab the microphone immediately to remind the nation that he has a plan to revive the economy and produce jobs.

As Republicans complain that the stimulus was never a good idea and nervous Democrats scramble for a response, it will take Obama’s soothing rhetoric to shore up jittery markets and head off a drastic drop in consumer confidence. If there is a silver lining in the recent unemployment reports, it’s this: The news has forced the economy back to the top of the agenda.
When Ben Bernanke told CBS in March that he had detected the “green shoots” of economic revival, many politicians and business leaders heard his remarks as “mission accomplished.” Congress and the president moved along to tackle health care and climate change, while Wall Street reveled in an imminent recovery.

But back on Main Street, average Americans were still losing their jobs. Those who managed to avoid layoffs were taking unpaid furloughs as employers cut back work hours and wages. And those lucky enough to hold on to full-time pay were socking it away in savings, reluctant to spend beyond the basics. That response, while understandable in uncertain times, contributed to a plunging business cycle, with businesses that sold less forced to lay off more workers.

Though liberal economists are talking about a second stimulus, the politics are unlikely to yield one. No Republicans will vote for it, and Democrats are already nervous about the deficit. Besides, Obama is probably right to remind Americans that stimulus money is just beginning to make its way into the economy; it’s not going to yield much in the way of jobs growth before late this year.

(Congress also needs a reminder that the stimulus would have been more potent if some of its members, insisting on a narrow-minded fiscal rectitude, hadn’t stripped out most of the financial aid to states and cities. State are now having to lay off employees and cut back services, prolonging the recession.)

If Bernanke’s “green shoots” won’t yield a bountiful harvest of jobs until next year, there is more the president and his economic team can do right now to stem the steady tide of foreclosures. Banks are not cooperating with the administration’s plan to help as many as 4 million struggling homeowners.

During the boom years, bankers were able to quickly upend their traditional way of doing business to peddle sub-prime loans and other exotic instruments; but they’ve been slow to adjust their mechanisms to negotiate with homeowners having a hard time paying their mortgages — even though they will be paid to do so from a taxpayer-financed pool of funds. Obama needs to let banks know he expects their full cooperation.

Most Americans know that it will take a while for the economy to recover, but they expect Obama to make economic revival his number one task. Those photo ops in glittering palaces were a bit off-message.

Obama on the hotseat.
Sounds like a good idea, but will any media outlet put him there ?
Who will ask the questions, and for that matter, how will the hard questions get past his handlers ?
Maybe we should all just eat cake

Oh Marc, it's all because of Bush and because we didn't pass a $10 quadrillion stimulus bill.

You state that there are numerous aspects beyond a stimulus that are totally being ignored by this administration, but you only managed to name one which is to stop illegal immigration. The jobs most of these illegal immigrants take are menial low paying jobs that no American would take anyway such as farm workers to help pick crops. Stopping these illegal immigrants which is easier said than done will do nothing to help our economy recover. How about making some real good suggestions or stop criticizing Obama for his actions.

Thanks lots-2-learn and Harrison.

Bob? You didn't mean that did you?

"The jobs most of these illegal immigrants take are menial low paying jobs that no American would take anyway such as farm workers to help pick crops."

Let's see, so WE lazy Americans don't want construction jobs, roofing jobs, plumbing, gardening and land scaping jobs, hotel and restaurant food service jobs, and meat packing jobs, because all of these SO called farmer workers have elevated and upgraded to and have taken away from us.

Even your own president Obama said that illegal immigrants depress wages Bob.

Lot2Learn, you think Obama is afraid to get in the hot seat and answer any question you Conservatives want to ask? I assure you he could answer every question honestly with no problem, but why would he want to waste his time? Talking to Republicans like talking to a wall.
Mark Chamot, From your comment, I gather you are a Republican after all because you, like all Republicans, try to put words into my mouth. Exactly where did I refer to Americans as lazy? I believe I said MOST illegal aliens take the jobs picking crops which happens to be low paying jobs that nobody wants. What American in his right mind would take a job working under the hot sun all day making below minimum wage? If they have upgraded to construction jobs, roofing jobs, hotel and restaurant food service jobs, and meat packing jobs, then they have done it illegally, and if employers are hiring illegal aliens, then they are breaking the law and need to be stopped and if the penalty is not severe enough to stop them, we need to make it more severe. You also said even my own president Obama said that illegal aliens depress jobs. SO WHAT! First of all, he is your president to if you're a citizen of the USA. Second of all, he doesn't say to what extent illegals depress jobs and you Republicans don't mention all the other factors that suppress jobs such as unfair trade practices, the NAFTA(I Know, Clinton signed it into law, one of his big mistakes), giving tax incentives to manufacturers who relocate abroad, and the biggest one of all which is the largest recession since the great depression. Instead of all you Republicans criticizing every move Obama makes, how about coming up with ways we can fix all those problems I mentioned.

The bottom line Obama and the Democrats need to act, but they aren't.

The solutions have been spelled out on my blogs hundreds of times Bob.

If you read my current post on my other blog, you'll either get the picture or you won't.

Thanks for posting...

Obama is acting on every issue facing him now, that's why Republicans have so much to criticize him about. Bottom line, line your solutions are solutions to help the rich and won't help to get us out of the worst recession since the great depression.

Mark, bottom line, Obama has acted on every issue, give his actions a little time to work, he's only been President for 7 months and he's not a magician. You think your spelled out solutions will work, but I think you're wrong.
